Why Offer Zero Sales Tax on Secondhand + Upcycled Items?
We're on a mission to make sustainable shopping more affordable for all, of course!
The first buyer of the item paid sales tax on it and is now selling it (worn or not). However, many states still require sales tax to be collected on resale and secondhand items, even if tax was paid the first time. But why should secondhand customers pay tax again for a person-to-person purchase?
We think you shouldn’t have to, which is why Wearing Conscious will cover your tax bill on all secondhand and upcycled products purchased from our shop.
At checkout, you’ll see that sales tax isn't added to the total for qualifying items from our shop, so you won’t need to take any extra steps.
For purchases fulfilled by other sellers in our marketplace, we will cover your taxes wherever permitted. This will automatically appear in your cart at checkout if the zero tax applies from that seller. At the end of every quarter, Wearing Conscious will submit all applicable state and local sales taxes on your behalf.
This way, you know upfront which tax costs are handled by us, and your final price is as low as possible. Many orders will now have $0 of tax added!
Our mission is to improve your shopping experience for secondhand, pre-owned, vintage, open box, and upcycled apparel, accessories, and home goods. Keeping your costs lower is one way we provide that experience!
Let's make sustainable shopping fun, easy, affordable, and reliable again.
Please note that not all items or locations may qualify for tax coverage. For example, tax coverage may not apply in certain states where regulations require direct remittance of sales tax at the time of sale, or to specific categories such as new or regulated items like live plants or animals. Any exclusions or limits will be clearly stated during checkout, so you know exactly what to expect.
