On first glance, it's just a standard, genuine Levi Strauss denim jacket in mint condition. But the bedazzled VAL FLEURY on the back tells a different story: This is a custom piece with a history.

Château du Val Fleury, near Paris, France, is renowned for its art installations and exhibits. Not coincidentally, it was also the inspiration for Los Angeles-based Liberian DJ and designer Val Fleury. She was also inspired by the time she spent in the small town in the French Alps called Valfleury (which in France is a commune... but it's just a tiny town, not what Americans would think of as a commune).

I met Val Fleury the DJ, and heard the story of this piece she designed, at her lawn sale in Venice, California, in 2022. Immediately, I was floored by her stories about France and the jacket's lore. She was selling things to head off on her next international adventure, living a wild artist's life that sounds almost like a Bohemian dream.

  • Fabric Care: To preserve the bedazzling, we recommend hand-washing with Woolite or a delicate fabric-care washing soap and hanging to dry. Do not iron over the rhinestones or on the jacket inside with rhinestones on the other side.

Anyway, I'll probably keep wearing this every so often, even though it's too large for me. As you would expect, I take extremely good care of it and only wash it by hand with Woolite. Its color and bedazzling remain perfectly preserved. Val Fleury would be proud.
